The Global History of Democracy and the Press at LAI-FU Berlin on 28 November

Gerda Henkel researchers Juan Neves-Sarriegui and Laura Cucchi will present the project ‘Latin America and the Global History of Democracy, 1810-1930’ to members and postgraduate students of the project Temporalities of the Future at the Institute for Latin American Studies of the Free University of Berlin, on 28 November. This talk will on the history of the press, one of the research pillars of the Gerda Henkel Project. Juan will focus on the freedom of the press between the revolutions of independence to the mid-nineteenth century, when modern notions of democracy started to become more common throughout the region. Laura will present on aspects of the periodical press in the second half of the nineteenth century in Argentina, a period of national consolidation and growth of the public sphere.
